Ngorongoro Crater Lodge
Welcome to Ngorongoro Crater Lodge; exceptional accommodation in a spectacular setting...
Perched high on the Ngorongoro Crater rim, Ngorongoro Crater Lodge overlooks one of the most fascinating volcanic calderas in the world. An important part of Tanzania's incredible northern safari circuit, on the world's largest unbroken caldera, the Crater Lodge provides extraordinary accommodation in a spectacular situation.
There are few places that truly are worthy of travel for the sake of the experience of staying there alone. The Crater Lodge is one of these, distinguished by its unique combination of style and setting.
Carved into the topmost reaches of the Ngorongoro Crater rim, the Crater Lodge is a dream-inspiring haven of artisan crafts and burning fire bowls, samovars, fresh roses and sumptuous gourmet delights. It is opulent and yet intimate, with no more than 12 guests in each separate 'camp', and a very subtle ratio of three staff to each guest.
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge Style
The Crater Lodge exudes a very special atmosphere, romantically characterised by its flower petal-strewn bath tubs with breathtaking views, personal fireplaces set around with leather-backed chairs, floor-to-ceiling windows dressed with raw silk curtains, illuminated with hand-beaded chandeliers. A personal butler draws the bath, stokes the fire and arranges fresh red roses in readiness for your return from Tanzania safari.
Such is the extraordinary nature of the Ngorongoro Crater that safaris here really do guarantee a wealth of rewarding wildlife action even if your time is limited, as this ancient volcanic bowl has the most densely packed concentration of wildlife in Africa.
The Crater Lodge relishes the views of this phenomenal place, from bedroom, bathroom, dining room or fabulously branch-entwined Tree Camp. The grandeur of the view far surpasses all the trimmings, forever breathtaking and always the focal point.

Latest news from the Lodge:
- NEW BORN
At about 07:15 around Ziwani area {lake magadi} we saw a new wildebeest calf being born which was about 5 minutes old. The calf lay down and the mother tried to get the calf to stand up. After about 2 minutes the calf started suckling and we left when the calf started to run around here and there.
- SMALL PREDATOR CHASES THE BIG ONE.
Just close to "Msalaba mkubwa", we were watching a Golden Jackal, when we saw a sub adult hyena coming on our side. When the hyena was about 2 metres away from the jackal, it started barking while the hyena didn't pay any attention. The jackal continued barking and confronted the hyena. As the hyena didn't seem to mind, the jackal followed it from behind and then bit it on the rear leg. The hyena turned a bit and then continued walking away. The Jackal followed it and bit again. This time the hyena decided to run and the jackal chased it for about 20 metres before it stopped. It was incredible to see a small predator chase a big one.
